Tom was very active in the church in whatever capacity he could most contribute. He was proud of the fact that he and his oldest child, Joan, were the first father and daughter to serve on Session together in the Presbytery.
They enjoyed discussing Sunday’s sermons and shared memories of them serving communion together. They shared laughter when the communion cups finally went to plastic and they no longer had to wash all those little cups. Tom was a long time member of our church until his passing in July of 2001.
Joan E. Walton was the first born of Thomas M. and Josephine E. Walton. As Joan became older, especially in her teen years, she could be found teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir. Joan often shared that the women of the church took her under their wings and helped her to become the woman that she was. Joan was very involved with the Presbyterian Woman and enjoyed meeting people from all over the world.
She showed her love for our church by becoming a Deacon, serving on Session and singing in the choir for more years than she could remember. For many years Joan served as Clerk of Session and also counted the offering on Sundays following service.
During her later years when she could no longer sing or serve on committees, Joan still enjoyed coming to worship and participating in any church event that she was able. Joan went to be with our Heavenly Father in February of 2016.
